Marvel's Spider-Man 2
GameHarbor Score: 9 / 10
A polished superhero sequel with faster traversal, spectacular set pieces and two playable Spider-Men, even if its open-world structure remains familiar.
Quick Verdict
A polished superhero sequel with faster traversal, spectacular set pieces and two playable Spider-Men, even if its open-world structure remains familiar.
Its strongest qualities are excellent traversal, spectacular presentation, strong dual-protagonist combat. The main reservations are familiar open-world tasks, some story beats feel rushed, but those weaknesses do not outweigh the core experience for the audience it is trying to serve.
Gameplay and Core Systems
Web wings and improved swinging make movement faster and more expressive. Combat adds symbiote and mechanical abilities while preserving the fluid dodge-and-combo foundation.
Open-world action games must make basic movement and combat enjoyable because players repeat those actions across a large map. In Marvel's Spider-Man 2, that foundation is supported by systems that become more expressive as the player understands timing, resources and the safest way to recover from mistakes. The result is approachable at the surface but capable of rewarding sustained attention.
World, Structure and Progression
Peter and Miles share a focused campaign with character-specific missions and side stories. The city activities are cleaner than before but still repeat familiar open-world patterns.
Strong campaigns use the world to support character and spectacle while avoiding an overload of formulaic side tasks. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is most convincing when progression, optional goals and moment-to-moment play reinforce each other rather than feeling like separate checklists.
Presentation and Performance
Character animation, instant switching and large set pieces showcase the PS5 effectively. The story moves quickly, occasionally leaving villains or emotional turns underdeveloped.
Animation, city detail and audio sell the fantasy of inhabiting a large living place. The interface and feedback are generally clear, and the strongest scenes use sound and visual direction to support play rather than simply decorate it.
Content, Replayability and Value
The campaign is substantial but more focused than enormous; completion activities and New Game Plus add extra time.
Side stories, exploration and online or post-game systems determine how much remains after the main plot. The final value therefore depends less on the advertised size of the game and more on whether its central loop remains enjoyable after the main objectives become familiar.
